Antique Working Decoy 16L Mason Factory Black Duck, Original Paint, c. 1920
Description : An early carved and painted working Black Duck Decoy, 16L, probably Mason (Detroit, MI), Standard or Challenge Grade? Solid cedar body with pine head and glass eyes; appears to be the original painted surface with tremendous Folk Art appeal. The photos are probably the best description. Condition : Moderate wear throughout including dings, scuffs, shot marks, soiling, etc. Consistent with age, use and exposure to the elements.
It has not been cleaned. Neck filler is missing; the head is very secure, however. The are old but look like replacements with putty visible on the perimeter; the right eye is cracked. Linear checks on the body (left side) and base, as shown.
