Curtis Waterfield (1926-2017) Miniature Wooden Duck Decoys Shoveler & Wood Duck
Exquisite Pair of Miniature Wood Duck Carving Decoys mounted on driftwood. One is a Wood Duck and the other is a Northern Shoveler. Both were hand carved and hand painted. Makes and wonderful display when paired together and is a tribute to a great artist. Both ducks are about 8 wide (base tip to tip).
Actual duck Carving is 6-6 1/4 wide. About 5 high with base (table to top of heads). Waterfield" (This is how Curtis Waterfield signed his decoys and carvings) and is dated "12/80, Virginia Beach, VA. The second is signed C. Waterfield & Son, Knotts Is, NC" Curtis has a son named Wayne "C. Waterfield --both members of Ducks Unlimited with 50 year of combined Waterfowl woodcarving experience, according to Curtis' obit in The Virginian Pilot newspaper. Virginia Beach - Curtis C.(Buck) Waterfield, born in False Cape, VA on July 3, 1926, to Charles and Etta Waterfield, passed on January 20, 2017 at the age of 90. Curtis was an Army veteran of World War II who served in France and Belgium and was awarded the Bronze Star. He worked as a firefighter for the city of Newport News for a number of years and eventually retired from Civil Service as a firefighter.
He and his son Wayne have been a team of well-known wildfowl woodcarvers for more than 50 years. Curtis was a member of Ducks Unlimited.
