Delaware River style early Canada Goose Decoy by Herb Miller Ship Bottom, NJ
Herb has been carving decoys for close on 50 years and I'm pretty sure he hasn't carved in years. Herb has won many ribbons and is featured in many books and articles. He is a world class carver having won Best in Show at the US National Decoy Show way back in the late 1960s (if memory serves me on the date). This decoy is likely circa 1980 -1990 and has a terrific patina.
The form is great having beautifully carved head and bill details = just look at that profile! Typical of the Jersey cedar that Herb used this decoy has a couple of areas with sap as seen in the pictures. This Canada is hollow carved cedar , with oil paint , lead pad weight and leather tie. It is both branded and signed by Herb Miller.This Canada Goose measures almost 21" long and is a bit over 7 1/2" wide.
