Early MADISON MITCHELL Pintail decoy Chesapeake Bay style. Hard to find Madison Mitchell Pintail decoy made in his earlier career - dated in ink writing: 1959.

Mitchell was the Chesapeake Bay's most famous decoy maker, training and influencing numerous decoy carvers. 17.5 full body decoy. Two different lead weights removed, indicating this was very likely a working decoy - not one of Mitchell's later decorative decoys. In very good condition with the usual signs of wear for a hunting decoy. A small stabilized hairline crack is under the neck. A fine example of Mitchell's earlier work.
