Evans Factory Mallard Hen Standard Grade Decoys Ladysmith WI 1921-1932
Evans produced decoys by roughing them out on a duplicating lathe (one bird at a time) and then finishing them by hand. Mammoth grade, Standard grade and the Competition Grade were the three levels.
Canvasbacks, Bluebills and Mallards are the most common species although the hens are harder to find in good condition in any grade. This is the very early loop scratch painting in the Standard Grade and these hens are difficult to find.
This decoy is bore hollowed from the front. Some neck damage see photos. All original except bottom has been painted green but stamp area has been scratched off to reveal the Evans Stamp. Several other decoys including Mason, Evans, Herters will be listed tonight or very soon.
