JOHN HODGE BLUE POINT BAYPORT NY 3 CARVED DUCKS BIRDS IN FLIGHT DIORAMA 1930's. Approximately 30" long x 10". Everyone local who ate at the Bayport House in Bayport remembers John Hodges works! This was his showcase, and it was filled with his works from floor to ceiling.
Birds and Ducks, Geese, Fish, Native American in a Canoe, Trout, Moose, and more, all in 3 D, carved and painted on old pieces of wood or even salad bowls. Johns works were displayed in 1938 at The National Sportsmen's Show in NY's Madison Square Garden, and in 1939 at the Long Island Exhibit at the NY Worlds Fair. He sadly died in 1957 at 89.
This piece has very few issues considering its age. There is a paint loss spot and scratch to the left. The yellow on top is crackling, and there is a slight discoloration in one spot above the middle bird. Under magnification you can see one wing was reglued at one point (see photo), but is very strong.
