John M. Bede (20th c, Chincoteague Island, VA) Duck Decoy, Hooded Merganser
Up for sale is an authentic and very rare, exceptionally carved, Chesapeake Bay Coastal Region (Chincoteague, VA), Hand Crafted "Hooded Merganser Drake" Working Duck Decoy by Master Carver John M. It is painstakingly carved with tremendous detail and features glass eyes, original black, brown/redish, and white paint. It is signed on the bottom, serial numbered #2319 and is branded John Bede. Bede's decoys are extremely detailed and are individually numbered after completion as they are time consuming masterpieces. This one is no exception and is of the quality of a competition decoy.
This one must have taken months to carve as each feather is hewn out in perfect detail. Bede's decoys are greatly increasing in value due to the craftsmanship and scarcity. Here is your chance to own one which truely is a work of art. This decoy measures 12" long, the body is 6 3/8" tall, and it is about 5 3/8 wide. A very unusual styled high quality decoy and a extraordinary piece of American Folk Art, a great decoy for any premium collection and important piece of Chesapeake Region/Eastern US Coastal History.
