Mason's Premier Grade Duck Decoys Pair of Vintage Wood Duck Decoys
From the Luckey & Lewis'Collecting Antique Bird Decoys and Duck Calls' pp 155 Premier Grade characteristics are: finely carved bills with the all important carved nail representation; two-piece hollow bodies normally, with flat bottoms; glass eyes, and very beautiful paint, including the well known Mason swirl pattern on the breast. Look at some of the photos and you will see that all Premiers have a triangle carved on the bill, the nail is carved in detail, the nairs (nostrils) are carved as well, and the glass eyes are always used.
" Challenge Grade "a painted black dot to represent the nail. Pair of black duck wooden decoys in original condition. Each has a glass eye on one side and a painted eye on the other.
The heads are swivel and can be repositioned or come off all together. There are no marking to identify the makers. We will sell these only as a pair as they look like they belong together. The size of each is approximately 16" long x 6" wide x 6 tall.Each weighs approximately 2 pounds.
