Nice Canvasback High Head Decoy by Jim Pierce -Havre de Grace MD, Original Paint
Putting some of my decoy collection up for sale so please take a look. This is a beautiful high head canvasback drake decoy by renowned upper Chesapeake Bay carver, Jim Pierce.
It is electropen signed by him on the bottom. There is also a copper tag "Jim Pierce & Son" on the bottom. It is rigged for hunting, but probably has not ever been hunted over. The paint work is impressive giving the decoy a very real appearance.
Done in the style of many other upper bay carvers who taught him "the ropes" like R. Madison Mitchell, Bob McGaw, Captain Harry Jobes, etc. Pierce's decoys always embody the Havre de Grace school.
Pierce works with his son in making hunting decoys as the tradition continues. Multiple pictures to assess condition. There is a slight crack on the underside of the tail. Dimensions i n Inches (Length by Width by Height) and Weight in Lbs-Oz.
