Nice Vintage Hollow Body Black Duck from Barnegat Bay, NJ Ward Museum Auction
Lots of decoys for you to choose from, most with original paint: vintage and contemporary, full size and miniatures, hand carved and factory. Many famous carvers such as, R. Madison Mitchell, Ira Hudson, Nathan Cobb, Lloyd Tyler, George Strunk, Harry V. Shourds, Ralph Malpage and more... DESCRIPTION: This is a great really old black duck decoy that oozes attitude and character. Definitely one of the oldest I've had, late 1800s or early 1900s, it has a provenance as coming from the Kristina Barbara Johnson Collection (stamped on bottom BJ Collection) of the Johnson & Johnson Company dynasty.

She was an avid art collector and involved in many museum projects in the Princeton, NJ area. This and others from the Johnson collection were auctioned in 1996 at the Museum. Oliver's listed the carver as unknown in their 1996 catalog. The called this a good, old repaint with paint worn in many areas.

They also described it as a Barnegat Bay, NJ style. This is pretty evident with the hollow body 2 piece construction and large rectangular flat bottom weight.

The down turned head in swimming style is also typical of NJ decoys. Check out the recessed eye slots.

Part of leather connector strap remains. CONDITION: Use the multiple pictures to assess condition. Structurally sound - very good.

Crack down the back with lots of typical wear and tear. Dimensions i n Inches (Length by Width by Height) and Weight in Lbs-Oz. Approximately 17 x 4.5 x 6.5 inches; 1 Lb - 13 oz.
