Rare opportunity to acquire this outstanding hollow carved wood duck drake decoy by Mark McNair, Craddockville, Virginia b. McNair is one of the most collecitble decoy carvers of our time and his decoys and shorebirds exhibit his distinct carving and painting style that will be appreciated for generations of collectors to come. Using primitive and traditional carving tools his carvings have a very minimalist but classic form. Paint is applied sparingly and appears to be infused into the wood itself rather than merely applied. This gives the finished surface a warm and aged appearance. Wood ducks are not a common species and this example has all the McNair characteristics so treasured by collectors. It is hollow carved, very light. Measures about 14 inches in length.
