Elmer Crowell miniature mallard duck decoys ca. A rare pair of miniature mallards by A.

The drake is original paint in excellent condition with neck extended forward measures 5 &1/2 inches from the tip of the bill to the tail, the hen measures 4 &1/4 inches from the tip of the bill to the tail also original paint in excellent condition with the exception of the neck which has a very, very old brake which is slightly mis-aligned when glued (see photos) , The over all length of the driftwood is 7 inches, both have a small dot of paint missing just behind the legs like they were leaned against something on there legs while the paint dried. Both have metal legs and painted feet, mounted on driftwood and signed with a fountain pen or artist pen in black ink on the bottom A. The reason I dated them the 1910's is he , in 1915 used a carved base with painted feet and a blue and white label writing the species on the label which predates the carved base with carved feet and a square stamp.

The driftwood with it being signed predates them all. His miniatures with paper labels or the stamp on the bottom have the town East Harwich, Mass. Which is inland and north of Harwichport, Mass.. Since he was a professional market hunter before the hunting laws changed, it only makes sence that he would live on the water in Harwichport, Mass. Is on the water south of East Harwich, Mass. This coincides with his hand written name and Harwichport address on the bottom which predates the paper label and stamp. Guaranteed to be as described.
