Rare & Beautiful Antique Carved Wood Turkey In Flight Signed George W Reinbold
Rare & Beautiful Fresh To Market Antique Carved Wood Turkey In Flight Signed George W Reinbold. Simply put, this is the greatest carved bird I have ever had the privilege of owning and offering.

This turkey in flight measures 12" long with a 10.5" wingspan. She is in wonderful condition with no inflicted damage.

There is a split down the middle of the tail feathers which I believe was done in the making and not an age crack. Near the upper portion of the split, about 1/2 looks like a crack and this is mentioned strictly for accuracy. The bird shows wonderfully muted colors and patina and oozes a look of the time period it was done, circa 1930's. I can't say enough about this wonderful piece. Please take a look at my other listings as we have a few other signed Geo W.

Reinbold carved birds from the same estate collection. George Wilmer Reinbold was born on March 14, 1885 in Newton, Pennsylvania, and attended Bloomsburg College in Pennsylvania with continuing studies at the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Arts where he studied fine arts and woodworking. After graduating he worked at the Williamsport Grit newspaper in New Jersey where he wrote articles, and drew comic strips and political cartoons. Later in life Reinbold carved wildlife and horses as a hobby, and after leaving his job at the newspaper he devoted his life to art. With a little help from his family he was able to get his pieces were soon exhibited in many different outdoor themed stores and gift shops, as well as galleries such as Richard Stocktons Shop in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, Caldwells in Philadelphia, and Abercrombie & Fitch in New York City.

Although horses continued to be his favorite subject, Reinbold also carved upland and lowland birds at half-size on a driftwood base, and flying meadowland birds, as well as painting fish, foxes, game and song birds on china plates and wooden trays. The paintings proved to be quite popular at Caldwells, Crossroads of Sports, Abercrombie & Fitch, and other stores where there was an outdoor theme. Fans of Reinbold's work insist that his finest work came from the late 1930s on, when he had more time to devote to his passion of carving wildlife.

George Reinbold died on December 14, 1946 at sixty-one years old. The item "Rare & Beautiful Antique Carved Wood Turkey In Flight Signed George W Reinbold" is in sale since Monday, January 23, 2017.
