Omer Round at His Best, Rare Bufflehead Decoy Pair. As I continue to downsize and refine my collection from a little bit of everything to more narrow focus, I struggle to decide what to keep and what has to go.
Since my focus area is species specific, despite these being likely the best old working bufflehead decoys I have ever owner, they are up for sale. The photos of these birds don't do them justice.
Omer Round did an excellent job capturing the plump form of a bufflehead, aptly nicknames butterballs, with great form and a raspy, texture surface. Where these decoys really shine though is the heads. The detail, form, and style of the head is absolutely sensational. Check out the closeups of the heads. The bills are so well-carved they could pass for the real things and the overall look of the bird brings it to life. Each decoys is fitted with a keel that has been lead-weighted to self-right. These decoys were made in the 50's by Round.Original paint in excellent condition. Some general wear and tear from hunting use.

The decoy you are seeing is the exact one you will be getting, therefore, there should be no surprises if you have taken the time to scroll through all the photos and read the text.
Unless the decoy is listed in 100% original paint, expect some old hunter touch-up. Almost every single decoy I have for sale was in fact a working decoy part of a larger rig and subject to typical gunning wear including rubs that were typically touched-up between hunting seasons as a way to pass the time during the off-season. Some of these decoys are more than 100 years old and over the course of many hunting seasons it is bound to happen. These aren't the first decoys i have seen or even owned by Omer Round, but i have yet to find any information on him in a book. He is a known carver from the Sarnia, Ontario region who carved mid 20th century.
Please contact me if something seems out of line and I will see what I can do. I say most because as you see some decoys will have a modest/fair-market reserve. Call it down-sizing if you will. NOTE: As with most sporting collectibles, along with being a great addition to a game room or home decor, vintage decoys have shown to be a sound investment that seldom decrease in value.
