Very Rare Wildfowler Decoys Old Saybrook Conn Rigmate Hollow Widgeon Pair Stamp
Very Scarce Rigmate Pair of Widgeon Duck Decoys by Old Saybrook Wildfowler. In excellent original condition, these hollowed widgeon decoys by Wildfowler stamped old Saybrook Connecticut are a very rare find. Rigmates, this pair has great form and matching size and feature the same great paint and style of other early Wildfowler decoys.
The photos do not do these birds justice. Keels and rigging have been removed, but these are a great find for the collector. In great condition with minimal wear as shown.
The paint on these appears all original, and the wear is consistent with light hunting. Drake has a tail chip that was re-glued in place. You will be hard pressed to find a nicer pair. I have done my best to document this decoy through both the text above and the photographs.
I will do my best to accommodate any and all requests. The decoy you are seeing is the exact one you will be getting, therefore, there should be no surprises if you have taken the time to scroll through all the photos and read the text. Unless the decoy is listed in 100% original paint, expect some old hunter touch-up. Almost every single decoy I have for sale was in fact a working decoy part of a larger rig and subject to typical gunning wear including rubs that were typically touched-up between hunting seasons as a way to pass the time during the off-season.
Some of these decoys are more than 100 years old and over the course of many hunting seasons it is bound to happen. Staring in, 1939, Wildfowler Decoys began production in Old Saybrook, Connecticut.
The founder of Wildfowler was Ted Mullikan, a friend of Joel Barber. Mullikan is said to have lost his entire rig of Mason and Stevens decoys, and convinced himself that he could build a better decoy rig himself, and a company was born.
