In later years he did wood fish spearing decoys, duck decoys (leather covered and solid wood carved) all for his own use in starting in 1917 and went thru the mid 1940s. Leather Covered Scaup or Bluebill Duck Decoy. This decoy is marked on the bottom by John showing it being owned by him, these were functional decoys and also this way people would know who to return it to if it were lost on the lake or marsh.
