Ben Gallop drake Scaup Decoy Currituck, NC (1927)

Drake Scaup decoy attributed to Ben Gallop. Ben was born and raised in Harbinger, N. Bens stand of decoys was made in 1927 and consisted of almost 300 decoys. John Henry Owens and Vernon Parker carved the stand with him.

The decoys were very large and had some variance to the body style, since the three men had different carving style. It is not known which style belonged to each of these men, but their carvings were similar. This decoy weighs over 5 pounds and measures almost 18 inches from the tip of the bill to the tip of the tail. It is 7 1/2 inches wide and over 9 inches tall at the head. The head on the decoy was replaced somewhere along the way as evidenced by the pictures. It has original paint and is a nice representation of the straight body in front which was a signature of Ben Gallop. The weight is also the type Ben used on his decoys. See the picture included from Gunnin Birds.

This will make a nice addition to your collection at a very reasonable price. The item "Ben Gallop drake Scaup Decoy Currituck, NC (1927)" is in sale since Monday, February 12, 2018. This item is in the category "Sporting Goods\Hunting\Vintage Hunting\Duck Decoys".
