This working wooden decoy, by a presumed but unknown Lake Champlain Valley maker, appears in a natural head-forward swimming position and was probably used as a confidence decoy to help lure tastier waterfowl into gunning range. The decoy has an unusual and interesting feathering paint scheme in the light-colored areas, with the natural wood growth rings stained to appear as feathered layers and to help break up sunlight reflections. There is an anchoring staple imbedded in the lower breast area. Specifications: Body - 11" long x 6" wide x 5.5 high (base to top of head). Weight - approximately 1 lb.
Condition: Excellent overall, no shot holes. Four small stick-on silicone bumpers have been added to the underside to prevent display shelf creep. An intriguing and fine artistic example of the colorful drake of this species. This item is in the category "Sporting Goods\Hunting\Vintage Hunting\Duck Decoys".
