EVANS Vintage Duck Decoy Magnum size Bluebill Original Hand paint withglass eyes
Solid body Hand painted Walter Evans decoy from Ladysmith WI. Hen Bluebill design and stamped EVANS DECOY. Stamp is partially obscured by Gunners initials. (HOC) burned into the finish. Keel is missing, and has some "in-use" gunner wear to paint, no shot holes. Un-washed or cleaned since I have owned it, (I will leave that up to you if you wish to do so). Probably made from Northern White Pine since that is the common native tree species of that area. Walter Evans produced Lathe-cut blanks, Hand painted, lightly carved decoys that were rubber stamped from the mid 1920's to 1932 in Southwest Wisconsin.
Original paint, no touch-up, light to moderate wear, no keel. Please look closely at neck area, for there appears to be a crack most of the way around the neck.
I cannot tell whether or not it has been re-attached (there is no apparent glue) but the head is solidly attached. There is a check that runs from the center-mid bottom through the keel mount hole and beyond to the underside of the tail. Paint wear on bill and tail tip as well. All normal wear for a Gunners Magnum size, Solid body decoy almost 100 years old. This is one of my Favorites that I have owned since 1978 and loved it for what it represents, however time to downsize.ALL SALES WILL BE FINAL...
