Hand carved decoy duck
This hand carved duck is in good condition. It is mostly black and white, although remnants of other colors appear in a few spots. The paint is chipped around the head and there is a surface scratch on the tail.
There is also a large crack as shown in the pictures across the bottom of one side of the duck. It measures 12 and 1/2 inches from tip to tail and is 6 and 1/2 inches high, but almost 8 inches high with the tail board for weights. It is quite heavy, perhaps around 4 pounds. I'm not sure who painted the W and H, but that may have been done to mislead someone.
The duck is made with a dowel running through the chest attaching the head, which swivels slightly. It also has three holes that appear to have had lead added to them, perhaps for ballast. The guess of it being from the 1950's comes from the screws that were used. The duck is quaint and charming although shows signs of wear and tear.
