HIGH HEAD BLACK DUCK IRVEN LYONS BELLEVILLE ONTARIO 1920's DECOY
Irven Lyons worked for the Department of Lands and Forests as a game warden in Belleville and Peterborough. In the 1920's he was living in Belleville and Bill Crysler was living in Belleville at the same time which may account for the Crysler style body and scratch painting in his black duck decoys. The decoy is in excellent condition with only minor wear mainly around the edges.
The paint is all original with scratch painting on the head and body. There is carving to delineate the bill from the head, a carved bill nail at the tip and an egg tooth on the underside of the bill. The eyes are glass and intact. The structional condition is excellent and original with no repairs.
The bottom has an inletted circular lead weight which is stamped with the name "Lyons" twice. "Lyons" is also stamped in two other places on the bottom. He is a listed carver in the book "Ontario Decoys II" by Bernie Gates. An overall nice vintage decoy.
