Nice Pair of Mallard Cedar Block Hollow Decoys 1920
(Illinois River, Midwest or Great Lakes Region). These are early hollow body mallard decoys. They are most likely crafted by an Illinois River, Midwestern or Great Lake region artist; circa 1920 - 1930s.
The decoys are both nicely appointed, and very solid. They are painted correctly, original paint (no repaint evident).
As you can see, the carving and paint on these decoys is wonderful and provides some terrific detail. However, they are in awesome condition; typical scuffs and scratches from age and intended use. But, no major flaws (just paint wear). Heads are firmly mounted; heads do not move.These decoys are not marked. But, they were clearly done by a talented craftsman. Each decoy measures approximately 16.0" long (tip of bill to tail), and 6.25" wide, and 6.0 tall (base to top of head). Again, this is a fantastic pair of vintage working duck decoys.
They would make a terrific addition to any collection, to use in the field, or to display. Please use pictures to determine condition.
