Ontario Bufflehead Drake Decoy
Listed is neat little bufflehead from Ontario. This decoy had 4 or 5 heavy coats of paint, of which the top coat was just plain awful. The decoy was taken to an antique restoration shop, where they carefully removed each layer of paint. They could not save all of the original coat of paint, but what remains is the residual paint and the bare wood that absorbed the pigment. The pattern is spectacular, especially the pinched breast/neck. Unfortunately, as careful as they were, some of the tarnish came off of the brass tack eyes.
