OP Mason Black Duck Decoy Original Paint
Here is a fine example of a Mason Factory decoy! Exquisite original paint and a great classic body! The Mason Decoy Factory begun with William Mason who only produced Premier and Challenge grade decoys. After his passing, Herbert Mason took over and produced other grades of decoys as well.
Challenge Grade were characterized by somewhat flat bottoms, glass eyes, beautiful swirl paint, and nicely carved bill. The best "artists" (painters) were put on the line to paint these decoys. The factory was closed in 1924.
Written on base is 1910 Masons Factory Premier Grade Black Duck. Ellery Clark Collection for the collector. Please see pictures for condition and contact me with any questions, I can not list every scuff scratch or dent, crack in neck, repair. Chips out of tail, head loose due to filler missing, drying cracks in various spots. Please use zoom to see these tiny flaws.
