Pre-1900 Hollow Green-winged Teal Drake Duck Hunting Decoy Decoys Ontario Canada
Beautifully carved and painted, very, hollow with bottom board, green-winged teal drake from Ontario Canada. This is a very early decoy. I'd estimate it to be circa 1880.
Very petite measuring 10 3/4" in length, 4 1/4" at the widest point and 4 from the bottom to top of head. The paint is all original. However, there is an old coat of varnish. I do not know if the varnish is original to the decoy.If the varnish is able to be removed, I'm sure the paint would be much brighter. It appears the bill tip has been slightly pushed in.
