Rare Antique Cast Iron Sink Box Flat Bottom Duck Decoy
CAST IRON FLAT BOTTOM DUCK DECOY. THESE DECOYS WERE PLACED ON THE WINGS OF A SINK BOX. THE WEIGHT OF THE DUCKS LOWERED THE SINK BOX SO THE GUNNER WOULD BE BELOW THE WATER LEVEL AND CONCEALED FROM THE APPROACHING WILD DUCKS AND AT THE SAME TIME SERVE AS DECOYS TO THE APPROACHING WILD DUCKS. ALTHOUGH IT HAS A DATE AND OWNER INITIALS PAINTED ON THE BOTTOM, IT PROBABLY DATES FROM THE EARLY 1900s. THIS DECOY WEIGHS 26 POUNDS AND MEASURES 14" (BEAK TIP TO TAIL TIP), 5-1/2" HIGH AND 6 WIDE.
