Overall its in good condition. The pheasants look to be fine and the wood on the frame is very nice. The backboard looks a bit fragile and has newer staples it looks like. But based on the age and condition of the backboard, Id say this piece is from the 1940s or so. Born in Sweden, Rodell moved to the United States when he was in his early thirties.
He had no formal art training when he made his first diorama while recovering from tuberculosis. He began by painting a background in oil that he placed in a deep wooden carved frame. Then he added carved animals, birds or people and vegetation and plaster that he specially treated for the artwork. Finally the frame was covered with glass. The effect was like looking through a window. I collect, so I know whats it like to get an item thats nothing like described. So, I tend to go overboard on the photos and description. If there is an issue, Ill make it right or you can return the item as per the listed terms.
