Superb Herb Miller Signed Black Duck Decoy Hollow NJ / Delaware River Style
Putting some of my decoy collection up for sale so please take a look. This is a superbly done black duck decoy by renowned New Jersey carver Herb Miller which he personally signed and branded "Miller". This is an oversized black duck decoy at nearly 17 inches in length. Rigged for hunting with a large stable wood keel, it probably has not seen any hunting action based on its excellent condition. I don't know the age, but probably newer rather than older.
Miller (1935-) is a featured carver in the book, "Floating Sculpture - The Decoys of the Delaware River" by Huster & Knight, 1982. He has won many carving awards including the prestigious "best in show" ribbon at the Babylon, NY show. A clear example of the Delaware River style, it has raised wing tips, etched tail and a content posed tucked head and a hollow body.
The head shows excellent detail The paint is also detailed, particularly on the head -- just a totally beautiful, well done decoy you'll be proud to display. Use the multiple pictures to assess condition.
Dimensions i n Inches (Length by Width by Height) and Weight in Lbs-Oz. Approximately 16.5 x 5.5 x 7.5 inches; 2 Lb - 4 oz. Depending on your location, one is often cheaper than the other, so choose wisely.
