I'm a collector, not an expert so I try to give my best opinion on carvers and condition, but won't take any decoys back if you have a different opinion. All pictures taken outside with natural. DESCRIPTION: This is an old, old canvasback drake decoy by John B.

Most of his decoys were carved from 1840 to 1860. His style and snakey heads are quite distinctive. This one has seen many years of hunting and has several layers of old working repaint that actually now adds to its character and appealing display.

CONDITION: Use the multiple pictures to assess condition details. Structurally sound with a solid wood body. Lots of wear and tear.

Dimensions n Inches (Length by Width by Height) and Weight in Lbs-Oz. Approximately 12.5 x 6 x 6.5 ; 2 pounds - 3 ounces. More about the carver from the Ward Museum.

Though John Graham was a cabinet maker, guide, market hunter and Charlestown's undertaker, he still found time to produce large quantities of decoys between the 1840's and 1860's. He concentrated on canvasback, black duck and redhead decoys, but also carved a few teal. His decoys display a variety of different carving styles, though mandible carving, prominent neck shelves and full bodies are common to all his decoys. Identified on the bottom with J.

Graham, these particular decoys are quite rare (Fleckenstein, Decoys 236). The item will be carefully and securely packaged. Your satisfaction is my guarantee.
