Vintage Chesapeake Upper Bay Bushwhacker hunting boat model, duck decoys
VINTAGE CHESAPEAKE "UPPER BAY" BUSHWHACKER HUNGING BOAT REPLICA. (GET THE ULTIMATE CHRISTMAS GIFT FOR THE COLLECTOR OF VINTAGE HUNTING MEMORIBILIA). One of the Chesapeakes most unique gunning techniques was bushwhacking. It was only practical along the upper reaches of the bay. The art of bushwhacking required a large rig of decoys (as many as 200) to be set out in open water.
Then the boat always painted white to give the appearance of an ice flow, would be rowed up wind a half a mile or so and anchored from the stern. The anchor would be buoyed with the bushwhackers waiting until the ducks flew into the decoys.The ducks would jump once the approaching boat reached the decoys. Unfortunately for canvasbacks and redheads, they had to take off into the wind which was directly into the guns of the kneeling hunters. The boat measures 21 - 1/2" long X 7" wide. The curtain/skirt is cotton, heavy starched to make it stiff and its removable.
Comes complete with 2 SETS OF ROWING OARS, 1 LONG TILLER OAR, 2 SHOTGUNS, STAND and 12 HAND CARVED, HAND PANINTED CANVASBACK DRAKE DECOYS. Over 50 pieces to this boat and l ike all of my work, this is not a kit, built one piece at a time taking many hours. Its been antiqued and distressed to simulate many years of use. I USE THE SAME PATTERN FOR EVERY MODEL AND THEY ARE ALMOST IDENTICAL WHEN BUILT BUT DO HAVE SUTTLE DIFFERENCES IN PAINTING AND DISTRESSING. THEREFORE, I DO NOT USE STOCK PHOTOS..
THIS IS THE BOAT YOU WILL RECIEVE. This is a nice size model that will display nicely with any decoy collection and hunting / fishing collectibles. Several of my models can be seen on display at the Ducks Unlimited Waterfowl Heritage center at the "Pyramid" in Memphis Tennessee.
