Vintage Illinois River Hollow Carved Working Decoy. In The Style Of Fred Allen. Small well made hollow carved decoy, measures 13 inches long, 5 inches wide, overall heigjht is 5 3/4 inches with a 2 3/4 inch head on a slightly raised neck seat, nicely carved bill with a V notch carved above the bill.
The head is finely carved, no eyes, with and almond shaped body, ending with a 1 inch notched tail, carved in the upper half of the body. There are 2 layers of paint visible on the body and head. The upper layer is black with comb graining and white markings of a Bluebill over an older green body color with green wing patches, aas well as an older green under black on the head. The bar lead weight has been removed. There is above average wear to the surface, but no major cracks or breaks. A paper thin seam is visible between the upper and lower half. The carver left an object in the body , which causes a rattling sound to identify it as hollow. It is a very good working decoy.
