Vintage Mason Premier Grade Mallard Drake Duck Decoy Slope Breasted Hollow Op
This old decoy retains a good deal of original paint with touch ups and in painting on the body, particularly in the gray areas on the left side. The left speculum also appears to have been strengthened.
Typical of these birds, there is a professional repair to a tail chip with touch-up in that area. It appears that the breast has had a wash applied to even out some roughness in that area as well. This bird does show some expected wear with rubs to the bill, cheeks, top of the head, and tail.
There is also some wear to the body particularly along two old age checks that run down the back into the tail. There are a few small chips in the tail. Atypically, the neck filler is original as are the old German glass eyes. It has a rectangular lead pad weight on the bottom.
Overall, this is a really good example of an early, pre-machined Mason that is tough to find in almost any condition. Measures 17-1/2 long; 6 wide and 7-3/4 tall.
