Here's a vintage pair of Canvasbacks decoys hand chopped bt Samuel T. Classic rigmate pair pf canvasbacks from around the turn of two centuries back in old second coat gunning paint, some possible original, finely carved heads, gently defined chime, slight upswept tail, shot marks, with hardware attached.
Drake is without neck cracks or repairs. Hen has small tight neck crack.
Sam was Madison Mitchells mentor in the early years of Mitchells carving career. Barnes also won first place in working decoy class at the second annual decoy show held in New York.His decoys are pictured in most Chesapeake Bay decoy books and his decoys are on display at the HdG Decoy Museum.
