When you look at the bottom, it looks like this may have been signed by the carver at one time with black paint or marker, but has mostly worn away with time. Although the head is loose right now, if this were to be soaked in water, the wood would swell and grab hold to the interior dowel and become tight to the body. Much of the white paint that was used to paint in the feathers is still there. There are some light scrapes here and there but there are no cracks or major chips in the wood. There is some damage to the tail including a hole and on the back of the duck, there is an area where something liquid dropped onto the piece and dried there. Be sure and check the photos carefully as they are an integral part of the description and do a better job of actually showing condition issues than what I can explain through the use of the written word. Be sure to utilize the magnification tool and always feel free to ask questions. If any of you know the breed of duck that this is supposed to represent, or if you can tell me more about this or the other decoy I have listed which I believe is a mallard, please let me know. Learning is half the fun of listing!! In response to my request for help... This is what I have been told by a kind person.... Your decoy was made by the Benz Wood Products Co of Jefferson City Missouri.
This one is of their later production years and is their most classic Mallard hen design. The decoys were made on duplicating lathes, sanded, and then hand painted.
That tells me that they may be relatively rare. " high, 17 long, 5 1/4" wide.Measurements due to the fact that the measurements on a wooden ruler start 1/16 into the wood, and. The ruler, and also the item being different lengths away from the camera lens than the ruler or tape measure. Even if it is only a fraction of an inch will also create a perspective issue. Please always go by my stated measurements rather. Than guessing at the exact sized based on the photos.
Note: Because of the way computers and cell phones are set to interpret colors that show on their monitors, and because of people's perceptions of color descriptions, the colors you see on your screen may not be exactly the colors you will get but might appear a bit darker or lighter, or a shade or two different. Of course, if I say that something is black and it turns out to be red when you get it, then. Obviously the fault is mine and the'not as described' claim will be accepted. If you need to have a perfect match and can send a fabric swatch or paint chip, or something else that you have that shows the exact color that you need, I. Will be happy to hold the item you are thinking of purchasing so that you can send me your swatch or whatever for me to use to check for that match. If you do need your item in a hurry for a birthday or special occasion, just let me know and I will be happy to do my best for you.
