When you look at the bottom, it looks like this may have been signed by the carver at one time with black paint or marker, but has mostly worn away with time. Although the head is loose right now, if this were to be soaked in water, the wood would swell and grab hold to the interior dowel and become tight to the body. Much of the white paint that was used to paint in the feathers is still there.
There are some light scrapes here and there but there are no cracks or major chips in the wood. There is some damage to the tail including a hole and on the back of the duck, there is an area where something liquid dropped onto the piece and dried there. Be sure and check the photos carefully as they are an integral part of the description and do a better job of actually showing condition issues than what I can explain through the use of the written word.
